Potassium permanganate (KMnO4) is a versatile oxidizing agent for solving taste and odor problems. KMnO4 can be extremely useful for treating waters that are contaminated by algae and industrial wastes. Various application points are considered in this article, and a table listing common microorganisms, characteristic tastes and odors, and corrective treatment is provided.
