The bryozoa are a group of freshwater and marine invertebrate animals that live in colonies. The formation of bryozoa at water treatment plants is troublesome to operators. This article describes the growth and structure of bryozoa, operating problems they cause, and a solution to the problem. The best solution is to prevent the formation of the bryozoan colonies through the addition of chlorine. Experience at the Marston Water Treatment Plant in Denver, Colorado with bryozoa is discussed.
