This paper describes the types of telemetry systems and discusses the factors that must be considered when selecting one of these systems. The three broad types of telemetry systems are owner‐owned cable, leased telephone cable, and radio systems. The three primary factors that must be considered in selecting a telemetering system include: the degree of system complexity required; the personnel who will use the system; and the capital cost and annual operation and maintenance costs.
