This article discusses the manufacturing of chlorine, the characteristics of chlorine gas and liquid chlorine, and safety precautions to take when dealing with chlorine. If there is any chance that an operator will be exposed to chlorine gas, the operator should wear a self‐contained breathing apparatus, long sleeves, and rubber gloves. The October 1982 issue of OpFlow contains more information on treating chlorine injuries and on chlorine safety and equipment.
