In this second part of “Filtration ‐ the ‘Gritty’ Process of Removing Impurities,” the term “head loss” is defined, measurements of head loss are discussed, back‐ washing and surface washing techniques are described, and filtration and backwashing rates are calculated. The first part of the article appeared in the June 1982 issue of OpFlow.
