Industrial hygiene should be an important concern to all water utility and treatment plant workers. This article defines acute and chronic exposure and threshold‐limit value, and gives examples of and methods of preventing inhalation, skin contact, and eye contact. Chemicals discussed include activated carbon, algicides, corrosion inhibitors, iron salts, hydrogen peroxide, sodium hydroxide (caustic soda), sulfuric acid, chlorine, and sodium chlorite.
