This article describes the Denver Water Department's approach to energy conservation in its operations. Its supervisory control system is capable of monitoring 470 points of information, such as pressure, flow, reservoir elevation, and valve positions. The Department's contract with the Public Service Company of Colorado, which facilitates peak shaving and load shifting, is described.
