There are many benefits associated with 12‐hour shifts, rather than the traditional 8‐hour shift. Among operators surveyed by the Denver Water Department, the new schedule has created new possibilities such as less turnover, more consistency in operations, higher efficiency because operators stay to master their tasks, savings in energy, and new incentives for employees in the form of longer weekends every other week.
