Damage caused by freezing and ice buildup has ruined many storage tanks in recent winters. This article gives examples of ice damage and suggests methods of preventive maintenance, handling of ice buildups, and preventing outside ice buildup on the tank structure. Pumping schedules to keep water moving and use of fire hydrants or end‐of‐line blowoff valves are covered.
