Proper maintenance of meters will assure a long life and accurate meter readings will insure the correct amount of revenue for utilities. There are several ways that repairs to meters may be accomplished. One is to remove them completely and return them to the factory for service, or the utility could purchase the necessary tools and train personnel to take care of the meters. Contracts with outside firms specializing in meter repair and maintenance may be negotiated. Once meters are repaired, it is important to implement a schedule of periodic testing.
