Proper sample preservation is a key ingredient to the accurate analysis of water. Since most analyses are done away from the sample site, certain steps are needed to maintain the samples before testing. Preservation techniques should be designed to prevent biological action, to retard changes in chemical compounds and to reduce the escape of gases or other volatile substances. Refrigeration is the best technique now available.
