The author, chief water plant operator in Rapid City, South Dakota, takes issue with remarks made by the general contractor who built their new automated water plant. The contractor believes that the plant can be run by one person and that all equipment and water processes will proceed in a normal fashion. The author disagrees and discusses the value of operators and how essential they really are to the successful operation of a water plant.
