A fossil fern described originally by W. Fontaine as Aspidium heterophyllum has been reexamined. Based upon characteristics of the sorus, indusium, sporangium, and spores the plant belongs to the family Matoniaceae. There is no genus within the family to which the fossil can be assigned; thus, a new genus ( Delosorus ) is proposed. This report increases the number of plants within the Lower Cretaceous Potomac Group that belong in the Matoniaceae.
