FRUITING AND TWIG DIAMETER IN CITRUS

On orange and grapefruit trees, fruiting was associated with an increase in diameter of the twig. On twigs with lateral fruit, this increase was restricted to that part of the twig below the point of attachment of the fruit. Possibly, fruit development induces orientation of vascular tissues and, hence, translocation toward the fruit.
