Ascosporic cultures were obtained from spore shoots of Hymenoscyphus caudatus growing abundantly on leaves of Acer rubrum . In determining the proper medium, light, and temperature for growth, an Idriella conidial stage was discovered for this fungus. Attempts to induce apothecia to develop under artificial conditions proved unsuccessful.
