Pseudobryopsis myura , type of the genus, is monoecious; male and female gametocysts occur on the same plant; there is definite anisogamy and only macrogametes possess a stigma. The mode of extrusion of the gametes differs both from the Bryopsis ‐type and from the Codium ‐type. As in Codium the discharge of the gametocyst is due to internal pressure. Gametes become motile only after their extrusion from the gametocyst.
