L ee , R obert K. S. (U. Hawaii, Honolulu.) The structure and reproduction of Dudresnaya hawaiiensis sp, nov. (Rhodophyta). Amer. Jour. Bot. 50(4): 315–319. Illus. 1963.—A description of Dudresnaya hawaiiensis sp. nov. of the Dumontiaceae, Cryptonemiales, is given. The genus, which includes 8 previously described species, has heretofore not been reported from the Hawaiian Islands. Dudresnaya hawaiiensis is distinguished from other species of the genus by its thick, short stipe, its closely clustered main branches, and its very dense covering of slightly flattened, obovate branchlets. The structure of the carpogonial and auxiliary‐cell branches and the development of the carposporophyte and of the spermatangia are discussed and compared with those in other species of the genus.
