Abstract The signals of intracellular metabolites are integrated into cellular signaling networks by forming metabolite‐derived posttranslational modifications or by non‐covalently binding to proteins. These signals serve to coordinate cell metabolism and to regulate various aspects of cell physiology. © 2016 IUBMB Life, 68(11):871–872, 2016
