A model is presented which describes the influence of inhibition on photosynthesis as a function of time and light intensity. The model parameters can be estimated from p vs I curves determined by means of an incubator. Daily production computed with the model is compared with that calculated using a model based on a time independent description of photosynthesis‐light response curves. To do this, a hypothetical case study was used, in which the influence of turbulent mixing and recovery from inhibition was also investigated.
