The PICCOLO represents a significant advance regarding measures of parenting behavior that are useful in real‐world settings. The developers wisely selected to construct the measure based on careful review of the scientific literature and on consultation with potential users. They followed time‐honored procedures for measurement development, including validation against child development outcomes. Versions of the PICCOLO were developed for use with fathers, and the instrument was field‐tested in Turkey and in childcare settings to deterime the potential breadth of the instrument's applicability. Although the evidence supporting these latter efforts is not strong, the evidence supporting the base PICCOLO measure suggests that it will have a high value for practitioners who work with high‐risk parents and their children.
