The cover shows two photos from the Wolf Prize ceremony, June 11, 2017 at the Knesset in Jerusalem. Top: Professor Bergman receives the Wolf Prize in Chemistry from (left to right) Noble Laureate Prof. Dan Shechtman, Israel's President, Mr. Reuven Rivlin, and Vice Chair of the Knesset, Mr. Meir Cohen. Bottom: Prof. Bergman responds to the Prize while the other laureates sit at the background (left to right): Prof. Jim Allison (Medicine), Prof. Didier Queloz and Prof. Michel Mayor (Physics), Prof. Charles Fefferman and Prof. Richard Schoen (Mathematics), Lawrence Weiner and Laurie Anderson (Arts). The background wall features the three exquisite Chagall tapestries, which grace the Knesset wall. The Wolf Prize recognized Bergman for “the discovery of the activation of C–H bonds of hydrocarbons by soluble transition metal complexes”. Bergman reported the first directly observed example of oxidative addition of an alkane C‐H bond in 1982 ( J. Am. Chem. Soc . 1982, 104 , 352‐354).
