The new deep‐blue iridium complex, Ir(dppfm) 2 pic, consisting of a phosphoryl group at the 3′‐position of the phenyl ring and a methyl group at the 4‐position of pyridine, was synthesized and characterized for applications in organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs). Ir(dppfm) 2 pic exhibited an emission peak of 455 nm and high photoluminescence quantum yields of 73 %. Phosphorescent OLEDs based on Ir(dppfm) 2 pic exhibited a maximum external quantum efficiency of 7.8 % and Commission Internationale de l’Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.15, 0.22).
