The cover picture shows a schematic illustration of collisions of a single nanoparticle with an electrode and current amplification by electrocatalysis (water oxidation) allowing single particle detection. Systems where the particles adhere to the electrode upon collision produce a step and staircase response, while those that do not adhere produce a spike or blip, with little change in the steady state current. The microscopy images are the SEM and TEM images of IrOx NPs, which show a blip response (see Electrochemistry of Single Nanoparticles via Electrocatalytic Amplification , by Allen J. Bard et al., p. 267 in this issue).
