A track record of generating novel fullerene‐like and nanotubular inorganic nanostructures from Cs 2 O, SiO 2‐x , WS 2 , and MoS 2 by photothermal ablation with highly concentrated sunlight and ultra‐bright lamp light is reviewed, and augmented with new results for exfoliated MoS 2 and carbon as well as carbon nanotubes.
