The factors influencing the stoichiometry and the structure of the complexes between trivalent lanthanide perchlorates, hexafluorophosphates, nitrates, trifluoroacetates, chlorides, bromides, isothiocyanates and the polyethers 12‐crown‐4, 15‐crown‐5, 18‐crown‐6, dibenzo‐18‐crown‐6 and 21‐crown‐7 are reviewed. The properties of divalent lanthanide and Ce(IV) complexes with crown ethers are presented and discussed.
