The theory for the rate of multielectron transfer across the metal electrolyte interface in electrochemical systems is developed. The two‐electron case is specifically considered and compared to the one‐electron case. It is found that the two‐electron path may become more important than the parallel one‐electron channel under certain well‐specified circumstances.
