It is proposed that energy transfer by electron exchange is a likely alternative to that by electric‐dipole coupling for the case of chlorophyll and carotenoid proteins of the antennaes of photosynthetic systems. Biliproteins fit the criteria expected for the traditional Förster transfer. The criteria are fluorescence yield and lifetime of the pigments and structure and polarizability of their environment.
