Two compounds, tricin and a related new flavolignan have been isolated from Aegilops ovata L. dispersal units. Evidence leading to assignment of structure of this new compound is presented together with 1 H and 13 C‐NMR chemical shifts of related model compounds. These phenolics found together in the same plant species with a previously discovered lignan possessing activity as a germination inhibitor, raise the possibility of a new biogenetic link.
