The phosphate‐dependent rat liver glutaminase is inhibited by carbobenzoxy derivatives of amino acids. Derivatives bearing an aromatic group in addition to that of the carbobenzoxy group inhibit markedly stronger than those without such an additional group. N‐carbobenzoxy tyramine also markedly inhibits the glutaminase activity. In all cases tested the inhibition was competitive. The mechanism of the inhibition is discussed.
