1,5‐Diphenyl‐1,3‐ and 1,4‐pentadienes were prepared and their geometrical isomers separated and characterized. The metalation of any of these compounds gave a single pentadienyl anion, to which an all trans conformation was assigned. The protonation of this anion yielded 1, 5‐diphenyl‐1,3‐pentadiene.
