FNO 3 reacts with BF 3 , PF 5 , AsF 5 and SbF 5 , to form white solids identified as nitryl salts of general formula NO 2 + X − . Molecular oxygen is released during the reaction. The structure of these solids and identification of the oxygen were supported by the Raman spectra, gas pressure measurements and molecular weight.
