A heterometric study was made of the reaction between vanadium and 5,7‐dibromo‐8‐hydroxy‐quinolin. A method is presented for the determination of 0.2 mg V +5 in 20 ml aqueous solution which can be carried out within 10 minutes. The analysed solution may generally contain over 95 mol % Ca, Mg, Zn, Ni, Co, Cd, Cr, NaCl, NH 4 NO 3 , (NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 , citrate, arsenate and tartrate, and over 70 mol % A1, Pb, U, Zr, Th. The error is about 1%
