The metastable modification of β‐naphthol is shown to be isomorphous with naphthalene. This implies that its crystal structure is disordered, the center of symmetry being statistical. The structures of the metastable and the stable form are rather similar but the phase transformation requires a 180° rotation of about half of the molecules in the crystal.
