S‐(p‐ and o‐trimethylsilylbenzyl)‐ cysteine and homocysteine were prepared by reaction of p‐ or o‐trimethylsilylbenzyl bromide with cysteine, homocysteine or homocysteine thiolactone respectively. Properties of the amino acids and some of their N‐acyl derivatives are reported. The amino acids were polymerized by various methods through their N‐carboxyanhydrides.
