The products (e.g. I, II) obtained by Michael reaction between acrylonitrile or methyl acrylate and diethyl fluoromalonate or — preferably — fluoromalondiamide, gave upon hydrolysis and partial decarboxylation, 2‐fluoroglutaric acid (III). The reactions of this acid as well as some other attempts at new routes leading to γ‐fluoroglutamic acid (XV) are described.
