The cells of normal and leukemic chicks producing hemolytic plaques in agar after stimulation with SRBC have been examined ultrastructurally. The plaque‐forming cells from non‐leukemic chicks were generally plasma cells. This was also the case for 21 of 30 plaques formed by spleen or peripheral blood cells from chicks with myeloid leukemia, while in the nine remaining plaques the plaque‐forming cells were very immature blast cells.
