Primary tumors induced in the Syrian hamster by 20‐methylcholanthrene exhibit a diploid stemline. After several passages in vitro or in vivo, some of these tumors still show a diploid stemline. In the different tumors studied, the idiogram analysis reveals the presence of pseudo‐diploid mitoses but does not indicate any specific karyotype modification.
