Female white Swiss mice bearing the Ehrlich ascites carcinoma were treated with 6‐mercaptopurine, methotrexate, 5‐fluorouracil and DL‐glyceraldehyde, alone and in combination. DL‐glyceraldehyde was more effective against Ehrlich ascites tumor, as judged by 30‐day post‐inoculation survival time, than any of the three compounds with which it was compared. Combination of glyceraldehyde and 5‐fluorouracil resulted in a slight potentiation of carcinostatic effect. DL‐glyceraldehyde at carcinostatic dose levels was shown to have little toxic effect when administered for several days to white Swiss control mice.
