Abstract Lithium has changed the natural history of affective disorder, resulting in the majority of patients functioning in the community with no overt impairment in their emotional or social functioning. This study evaluated the psychomotor performance of a sample of patients stabilised on lithium, using a battery of computerised psychomotor tests. These tests reinforced previous concern regarding impairment of psychomotor functioning, parimarily reaction times, in patients on long term lithium.
