Abstract Although organizational commitment has been discussed frequently in organizational psychology for almost fourdecades, few studies have involved software professionals. A study in India reveals that HRM practices such asemployee‐friendly work environment, career development, developmentoriented appraisal, and comprehensivetraining show a significant positive relationship with organizational commitment. The study's results emphasizethe role of such HRD variables as inculcating and enhancing organizational commitment, and suggest that HRDpractitioners and researchers should further develop commitment‐oriented organization policies.
