The structure of vitamin K 2 , m. p. 54°, is established as 2‐methyl‐3‐all‐ trans ‐farnesylgeranylgeranyl‐1,4‐naphtoquinone by total synthesis and comparison of the synthetic compound with vitamin K 2 from putrefied fish meal. It contains a terpenoid side chain of an odd number of seven isoprene units with 7×5 = 35 C‐atoms. In addition, a second vitamin K factor isolated from putrefied fish meal, m. p. 50°, is identified as 2‐methyl‐3‐all‐ trans farnesylfarnesyl‐1,4‐naphtoquinone by comparison with a synthetic sample. Moreover eight other compounds of the vitamin K 2 series have been synthesized.
