2‐Oxo‐1,2,3,4,6,7‐hexahydro‐11b H ‐benzo[a]quinolizines unsubstituted in ring C (XXX, XXXI, XXXII, and XXXIII) and the homologues which are alkylated in 3‐position (V and analogues) were synthesized from 1‐carbalkoxy‐methyl‐1,2,3,4‐tetrahydro‐isoquinolines (VI, VII, VIII, and IX).
