Copper(II) oxide nanoparticles have been synthesized from Cu(OAc) 2 via a simple hydrolysis route and were found to be an efficient and inexpensive catalyst for ligand free CS cross‐coupling reactions of malononitrileCS 2 adduct with various aryl halides. Aryl iodides and bromides, with electron‐withdrawing as well as electron‐releasing groups on the aromatic ring, undergo coupling reactions in good yields.
