A new one‐step synthesis of highly substituted thiophen‐2(3 H )‐one derivatives was developed. 2‐Aryl‐1‐(morpholin‐4‐yl)ethanethiones were reacted with 2‐chloro‐2‐phenylacetyl chloride in DMF in the presence of a base to give the title compounds in moderate‐to‐good yields.
