Ethyl 2‐(chloromethyl)‐2‐hydroxy‐2 H ‐chromene‐3‐carboxylates 2a – 2j have been synthesized by reaction of substituted salicylaldehydes with ethyl 4‐chloro‐3‐oxobutanoate, in the presence of piperidine in CH 2 Cl 2 at room temperature, in good yields.
