The 4,4′,6,6′‐tetrasubstituted 2,2′‐alkylidene‐bisphenols 1 reacted with sulfur monochloride to give 4,10a‐(epidithio)‐4,4a,10,10a‐tetrahydro‐1 H ‐5‐oxaanthracen‐1‐ones ( 3 and 4 ). The structure of the products were elucidated by a combination of X‐ray crystal‐structure analysis and 1 H‐ and 13 C‐NMR spectroscopy.
