The product of the reaction of [Fe(benzalacetone)(CO) 3 ] with 7,7‐dimethoxy‐5,6‐dimethylidenebicyclo[2.2.1] hept‐2‐ene is tricarbonyl‐[2,3‐η: O ‐σ‐(7,7‐dimethoxy‐5,6‐dimethylidenebicyclo [2.2.1]hept‐2‐ene)]iron. Crystals are monoclinic, space group P 2 1 / c with a = 6.612(2), b = 11.610(4), c = 18.604(6) Å, and β = 95.91(2)°. The coordination at the metal atom is trigonal bipyramidal. The equatorial sites are occupied by 2 CO's and by the midpoint of the endocyclic double bond of the organic ligand. The axial sites are occupied by one CO group and the O‐atom of one MeO group of the C(OMe) 2 bridge. It is an uncommon example of a d 8 metal carbonyl complex bearing an O‐bonded ligand.
