The ligand 2,11‐bis(diphenylphosphinomethyl)benzo[ c ]phenanthrene ( 1 ) has been used to prepare complexes of the type [PtL( 1 )] (L C 2 H 4 , CH 2 CHCO 2 Me, PhCCPh, MeCCMe, MeO 2 CCCCO 2 Me, (i‐Pr)O 2 CCCCO 2 (i‐Pr), Ph 3 P and CO). It is shown that these complexes are less labile than the corresponding species [PtL(Ph 3 P) 2 ]. The preparation of complexes trans ‐[PtX(R)(1)] by oxidative addition of RX (RX PhCH 2 Br and Mel) to [Pt(C 2 H 4 )(1)] is described. The isolation of [PtO 2 (CH 3 ) 2 CO(1)] is also reported.
