Synthesis of Picrocrocin The synthesis of picrocrocin ( 6 ), the bitter essence of saffron ( Crocus sativus L. ) is reported utilizing (3 R )‐3‐hydroxy‐β‐cyclogeranyl acetate ( 3 ) as a readily available building unit.
