The title compounds (new type of merocyanines) were obtained from the reaction of heterocyclic enamines with indan‐1,3‐dione, biindantrione, 2‐(3‐methoxy‐inden‐1‐yliden)‐indan‐1, 3‐dione, or 2‐(3‐chloro‐inden‐1‐yliden)‐indan‐1, 3‐dione respectively. The enamines were obtained from the corresponding quaternary salts and reacted in situ.
